Holey

 Dear me!  I can see right into the kitchen.

That's not right...

Fortunately, I know a perfect cure: There! You'd never know anything was wrong...but something still isn't right.

Perfect! I'll just move the chest of drawers back into place, and Bob's yer uncle!

Beaming

 I've finished reinforcing the beam that traverses the kitchen ceiling.

The three two-by-eights are joined by two more and the whole group is glued and bolted together. There were ominous noises, and at the end the bathroom vanity seemed to have returned to the height from which it had sunk

Kitchen

 Yes, well, there's a Selkirk in the way! The joist on the right is single, but the hanger sits on the old post, so there!

 

Spring's Not Sprung

 It's still looking pretty bleak out. No sign of songbirds or grass! 

Splicing the Mainbrace

When they put the chimney in the kitchen, they dealt with the joist by simply cutting a few feet out of it. I've sandwiched it between two 2 by 8s, replaced the missing section, and glued and bolted everything together. It should take the bounce out of the upstairs bedroom.

Hidden Chimney

 Hidden above the kitchen ceiling was a chimney. They added a vent next to it, which is curious--why make another hole in the floor when there's one there already? Here it is, with the bricks and tin pipe removed.

Ice

 

The icicles have been growing--I like to think it is a sign that the temperatures are warm enough to allow melting. We are deep in a cold spell, with night temperatures around -20C.
